Whirlpool is the leading manufacturer and provider of home laundry machines in the United States. As of 2020, Whirlpool holds a 47.36% market share within the appliance industry. In short, half of ALL the appliances we buy in the United States come from Whirlpool. Whirlpool, headquartered in Michigan, has an annual revenue of roughly 21 billion dollars. Whirlpool is the maker of several brands of washing machines including Amana, Kenmore, Inglis, Estate, Maytag, Roper, Admiral and Kitchen Aid appliances. Often, these brands are set to give customers choices of “Good, Better, and Best”. Similar appliances often share internal parts, resulting in machines that are much closer cousins than we would have imagined.
GE Appliances, headquartered in Louisville Kentucky, is another brand that most U.S. consumers may be familiar with. Surprisingly, GE Appliances is not a division of General Electric. At one point it was part of General Electric, but In 2016, GE Appliances was sold to Haier, a Chinese-owned company. Bosch, a German company also known as Robert Bosch GmbH, also offers washers and dryers in the U.S. market. It is the leading appliance manufacturer in all of Europe. Bosch is much more than an appliances company. Bosch not only conducts business in the consumer goods sector, with appliances and power tools, they also are active in mobility solutions (vehicle technologies), energy and building technology (building automation and security systems), and industrial technology (factory design and production technologies). The home appliances subsidiary of Bosch had 13.2 billion Euros in sales in 2019.
The LG Appliance brand is headquartered in South Korea. LG, which stands for Lucky-Goldstar, was founded way back in 1958, after the Korean War. In 1995, Lucky and Goldstar merged and became known as LG. LG Electronics makes many products in addition to washers and dryers, including mobile smartphones, televisions and home theater systems, wearable devices, solar panels, appliances, and computer monitors.
Samsung Electronics, also headquartered in South Korea, has washing machine assembly plants located in South Carolina, U.S.A, Mexico, Poland, and several other countries. Samsung is the second-largest technology company in the world, making many technology products as well as components for other manufacturers’ products.The Samsung brand of washers and dryers is often considered a luxury brand and offers many high-end consumer features.
